When my dad opened his drugstore in 1924, Niedersteins had already been in business for sixty years. Niedersteins was built by Henry Schumacher about 1865. John Niederstein was a cook in Germany and came to America in 1866. He bought the hotel in 1888 and enlarged it by adding wings on both sides. It is closing after 140 years
